My Secrets to Dealing with Adult Acne

Yíall asked, so Iím delivering. After I posted 5 beauty must-haves for 2018, my Instagram DMs blew up about how I deal with adult acne. Well, Iím finally spilling my secrets.

Buckle up because Iím not holding anything back. Iím going to share with you everything Iíve tried, what works, what didnít work, giving you before photos, and everything in between.

Before I get into the nitty-gritty, I want to say this: Every single person’s skin & body is different, so what works for me doesn’t necessarily mean it will work for you.

Alright, here it goes. This is going to be a long one folks!

adult acne

All through middle school & high school I NEVER struggled with acne. When I say never I mean I got ONE zit every few months. Even through my first few years of college I never had any issues. Fast forward to my twenty-first-year and everything changed. I was diagnosed with Hypothyroid, and my body spiraled out of control.

I saw my dermatologist and he prescribed me an antibiotic to kill off the bacteria that was causing the acne, and he also suggested going on birth-control. The idea of birth-control is scary as fug to me. Iím a super all natural person, so the idea of having artificial hormones pumping through my body wasn’t particularly pleasing to me… BUT I filled the prescription and stared at the pack of pills for two months. Finally, my acne got so bad that I said, ďF%$K what Iím putting in my body if birth-control is going to fix my face Iíll take it.Ē I took birth-control for about three months, and it helped, but not like it should have so that was the end of that.

At that point, I was super desperate to find an answer, so I did what everyone does when they need medical help. I started prowling the internet. I researched the best treatments for acne and aestheticians in my area.

I tried a Hydra-facial multiple times it didnít work, and in my opinion, they are a waste of money especially†if you are trying to treat acne. I tried a micro-current facial- again multiple times. I canít even begin to express how bad it hurt. They extract all of your pimples and zap the open area with this micro-current which is suppose to kill the bacteria. Itís the closest Iíve come to being electrocuted. It was so terrible & beyond painful, but you know, desperate times called for desperate measures…

Itís amazing the things you can find on the world wide web. I stumbled across this treatment called Laser Genesis. How did I find this treatment you ask? We all know Kendall Jenner struggles with acne and her dermatologist in LA, Kristy Kidd, does this treatment on her. So obviously, if it worked for Kendall, Iím going to try it too. I called the closest spa that offered the treatment and set up a consultation.

Laser Genesis changed my life.

Before I go any farther let me explain to you what Laser Genesis is.

Laser Genesis is a noninvasive treatment designed to reduce fine lines, large pores, and acne scars (also amazing for acne. Iíll tell you why in a sec!) This therapy reaches deep into the dermis layer (where acne starts) warming the skin. When your dermis layer of skin heats up, it kills the bacteria that causes acne.

I love this treatment for so many reasons, but mainly because you see results over an extended period of time. Laser Genesis takes between three to four weeks to see maximum results, as new cells reach the surface of the skin and your bodyís collagen production continues to increase your skin clears up and new blemishes don’t arise. AND did I mention it is completely painless? Itís a heat laser, so your face just gets warm. The only way I can explain it is it feels like you’re laying out in the sun or in a tanning bed.

Along with Laser Genesis, my Dermatologist prescribed a few topical things that I love!†

Duac gel: use as a spot treatment at night

Aczone gel: also a spot treatment, this is a peroxide-based gel, and I don’t think my skin responds to this as well as the Duac.

Clindamycin phosphate pads: toning pads I use every night after I wash my face to make sure I got all the excess dirt and makeup off my face.

Other reasons your skin might be breaking out:

You aren’t drinking enough water, you’re traveling, you’re stressed, you changed your diet, etc.

I start to break out every single time I travel; I start eating bad, I don’t drink enough water, etc. If you think food, your daily routine, or environment doesn’t affect your skin think again. Start cleaning up your diet and drinking more water and I promise you, you’ll see a huge difference!

I hope this post helps any of you that are struggling with acne. Itís all a process of trial and error until you find what works best for you and your skin.†

I’m really glad you found something that works for you! The exact same thing happened to me, I turned 21 and my face went insane and it’s only gotten worse. I have tried just about everything I can afford and nothing has helped. I only use completely natural products and don’t have the money for laser treatments. I do take healthy skin supplements which do help some, but when it’s my “time of the month” my face just goes bezerk. I will keep hoping I find my miracle soon, thanks for sharing your success!
